One roomy puzzle at a time. Fill a 4x4 grid with 1, 2, 3, and 4, then check its rows, columns, and small boxes. Each practice page holds one large puzzle, with a matching solution and first hint in the answer section.

Choose your paper and print style
All four English PDFs contain the same 100 puzzles in the same order, with the same answers, first hints, rules, worked example, and after-game ideas.

The low-ink edition uses black vector lines and text on white paper. Choose the PDF that matches your paper size. Letter pages have their own layout, keeping the same large practice grids.
Four numbers, three places to check
Write 1, 2, 3, and 4 in the empty squares. Keep the printed numbers as they are. Use each number once in every horizontal row, every vertical column, and every small 2x2 box.
Choose an empty square and look at all three places. Which numbers are already there? If only one number fits its row, column, and box, write it in. If several numbers still fit, try another empty square or look at that puzzle's first hint.
A first move together
The adult-help page shows the first three moves of Puzzle 1. It reuses that same practice puzzle as a worked example.
For the first move, look at row 1, column 1. The row is missing 2, 3, and 4. The column is missing 1 and 4. The top-left box is missing 2 and 4. Only 4 fits all three places.
Point to the row, column, and box together. Let the player write the number, then try another square when ready. Rows count from top to bottom; columns count from left to right.

-
Solutions and a first hint for every puzzle, grouped four per answer page.
-
Three after-game ideas: explain a move, check together, and swap roles.
-
Four matching English PDFs: A4 and US Letter, each in color and low-ink.
There are 129 pages in each PDF:
-
Cover: page 1; rules: page 2; adult help: page 3.
-
Puzzles 1-100: pages 4-103, in order.
-
Answers and first hints: pages 104-128, four puzzles per page.
-
After the game: page 129.
The first answer page checks Puzzles 1-4; the next checks Puzzles 5-8, and so on. The last answer page checks Puzzles 97-100. Each practice page points to its matching answer page. The worked example repeats Puzzle 1; it is not an extra practice task.
Print one page or a few
Use the A4 or US Letter file that matches your paper. Print at 100% / Actual Size to keep the practice field at 188x188 mm and each square at 47x47 mm.
Choose practice pages from pages 4-103. Keep answers on pages 104-128 on screen until you want to check, or print the answer page you need. The cover, rules, adult help, and after-game page can stay on screen too.
Use a pencil and eraser. Leave the printed numbers in place.
After the game
Explain a move. Choose a square you filled. Explain why its number fits the row, column, and small box.
Check together. Find 1, 2, 3, and 4 in each row. Then check every column and every small box.
Swap roles. Explain the rules to an adult and help them begin the next puzzle.
Questions about the pages
Are the color and low-ink puzzles different? They contain the same 100 tasks, numbers, solutions, and first hints. Choose the print style you want.
Do I need to print the whole collection? Choose one practice page or a few from pages 4-103. Read the rules and adult help on screen, and keep the answer pages there if you like.
Where is a puzzle's first hint? It is beside that puzzle's solution in the answer section. Each practice page gives the matching answer-page number. First hints refer to the original empty grid.
Does the worked example add another puzzle? It repeats Puzzle 1 to show the first three moves. The collection has 100 practice puzzles.
What do I check after filling the grid? Every row, column, and small 2x2 box should contain 1, 2, 3, and 4 exactly once. Check against the numbered solution if you want.
