Five little fall stories
A Fall Stash. The squirrel is gathering food for winter. Help the squirrel reach the basket of acorns.
Rustling Leaves. A hedgehog wants a cozy place to rest. Lead it to the rustling leaves.
Rainy Day. A little cloud invites an umbrella for a walk. Help these friends meet through a maze of hexagonal cells.
A Fall Glow. Evening falls, and a jack-o'-lantern glows ahead. Help the little owl find the way.
Harvest Party. A pumpkin friend is hurrying to a party. Lead it to the harvest basket.
The story order is a way to organize the pages. Choose whichever character you want to help first.
What's inside
- A nine-page color PDF in each paper size: A4 and US Letter.
- Five different story mazes, each on its own practice page.
- A print-and-play guide, including the rule for hexagonal cells.
- Short prompts after each maze: name a goal, find a turn, or describe a picture.
- Answers for all five stories, with matching numbers, titles, characters, and goals.
The cover is page 1; the guide is page 2; practice pages are 3-7. Answers are on pages 8-9.
From a character to a goal
Read the two-line story and find the character and goal pictures. Marker 1 identifies the start beside the character; marker 2 identifies the goal.
Use a pencil to trace the open passages. Do not cross walls. If a passage ends, go back to the last junction and try another turn.
In Rainy Day, move from one hexagonal cell to a neighboring cell only through a shared open side. Do not cut across a wall or through a corner.
Print just the pages you choose
Select the PDF that matches your paper, then print at 100% / Actual Size. Practice mazes are on pages 3-7. Use a pencil and eraser. Keep the guide and answers on screen, or print them separately if you want them beside you.
The five mazes and their routes are the same in both paper versions.
Answers when you want to check
After a try, compare your path with the matching answer from start to finish. Each answer shows the same character at the entrance and the same goal at the exit.
- Story 1, A Fall Stash: practice page 3; answer page 8.
- Story 2, Rustling Leaves: practice page 4; answer page 8.
- Story 3, Rainy Day: practice page 5; answer page 8.
- Story 4, A Fall Glow: practice page 6; answer page 9.
- Story 5, Harvest Party: practice page 7; answer page 9.
If help is needed, point to where the open passage stopped. Find the last junction together and try another passage, then check the answer if you want to compare.
After the maze
The prompts belong to the pictures and paths on each page. Point to one turn on the squirrel's path, show a shared open side in the cloud's hexagonal maze, or name something in the pumpkin friend's harvest basket.
You can answer with a drawing or words. The route is finished; now there is a little more to notice together.
Questions before you print
What do I need? The chosen paper size, a printer, a pencil, and an eraser. Print at 100% / Actual Size. Answers can stay on screen.
Do the stories have to be played in order? No. Choose any character. The page order does not claim a measured difficulty progression.
How does the hexagonal maze work? Move between neighboring cells through a shared open side. Never cross a wall or cut through a corner.
Where are the answers? Pages 8-9. Each answer uses the same number and title as the practice page, with the matching character and goal.
Do I have to print the whole PDF? No. Choose practice pages from pages 3-7. Keep the guide and answer pages on screen or print them separately.
Can a grown-up help without giving the whole answer? Point to the dead end and the last junction. Try another turn together, then compare with the answer after an attempt.
